    About this opportunity:Could you support unpaid carers or people with disabilities to access benefits? Could you help someone find local services? Could you help someone understand the information they have been given about their care and support? Could you support or lead a group of people on a topic of interest?

    You could help improve the quality of someone's life.

    Voiceability provides advocacy support to help people have their voices heard in decisions about their health, care and wellbeing.

    This role is ideal for social work students, those with an interest in the care sector or retired professionals.

    Support Session Volunteers help their clients with general advocacy, supporting people with a variety of challenges. This helps Voiceability to reduce waitlists and support more individuals by:

    · Helping clients understand about advocacy
    · Supporting clients to self-advocate with our tool kits
    · Signposting clients to other services where required
    · Supporting the service to deliver ollective advocacy sessions
    · Light Touch Advocacy
    · Supporting advocates with casework
    · Promotion of services and the organisation
    · Logging activity onto our systems

    Takes place:

    Wednesdays

    Saturdays
    Sundays
    Minimum age:18
    Maximum age:100
    Training provided:As a volunteer you'll receive full training, support from the volunteer team and your local advocates, and paid expenses. Training is delivered remotely on Teams, and you will be given a VoiceAbility email account and mobile to be able to access the training. There are also online modules to complete and a whole catalogue of e-learning that you can access. The training covers topics such as an introduction to advocacy, safeguarding, an introduction to Social Security Scotland and the benefits and more.

    Yes - Travel expenses reimbursed.

    Experience required:Some key skills/qualities to have are: · Good communication skills · Empathy and patience when dealing with clients · A knowledge of or interest in advocacy · A basic level of IT literacy · Accuracy and attention to detail · Ability to manage own time and prioritise workload · Ability to work independently & as part of a team · A commitment to the aims and ethos of VoiceAbility

    Restrictions on who can volunteer
    volunteers have to be suitably background checked and need to be able to travel around their local area by themselves
